How to submit a program revision request

  • These instructions are specifically for programs who elect to change their curricula in response to the recent policy change reducing the minimum credit hours required for the Ph.D. from 90 to 60.
  • The policy change has two components: a reduction in the minimum number of dissertations credits from 30 to 18, and a reduction in the non-dissertation (curricular) credits from 60 to 42.
  • Program revision requests are submitted via CourseLeaf, the online program management system. Every program has an entry in this system that provides the text for the Graduate Bulletin and serves as the formal ‘document of record’ for the program.

Step-by-step instructions

Note: The edits/modifications do not need to be done in one session. There is a ‘Save Changes’ button at the bottom of the page that you can use to save the current changes so you can come back later to finish the edits. Once you are satisfied with the edits you can submit the proposal by clicking on the ‘Start Workflow’ button at the bottom of the page.

  1. Access the program management system here
  2. Log in with your WSU credentials. If you have access problems, email Joe Pawlik ay7708@wayne.edu.
  3. On the opening page, enter the name of your program in the search window using the instructions provided on the page.
  4. Open the entry for your program and click the green ‘Edit’ button on the right.
  5. Near the bottom of the opening page find the item labeled ‘What is the Purpose of this Proposal’ and choose ‘Revise an existing Program’ from the drop-down list. Note: do not change the items above this entry (academic level, CIP code, etc).
  6. In the ‘Summary of Proposal’ text box briefly describe the changes you want to make. For example: We are reducing the dissertation credit hour requirement to XX, revising our curriculum to reduce the total number of credits required for the Ph.D. in pathology to 60.
  7. Fill out in detail the ‘Requirements’ section. Depending on how you are modifying your program this may be simply a removal of a few courses and a new description of the dissertation credit courses. If you are making more extensive changes, or if the current entry is inadequate, you may need to fully re-write this section. In all cases, this entry should be a complete description of your program requirements, and if desired a description of possible electives.
  8. Fill out the ‘full-time/part-time’ box and the ‘time limitation’ box if they are not already filled out.
  9. Submit a new sample plan of work by typing it directly in the entry box or submitting it as an attachment and entering ‘see attachment’ in the box.
  10. Make sure that all the items in the ‘Assessment’ box are properly filled out. If not, they can be copied from your program’s assessment materials. These items must be filled out for your program revision to be approved.
  11. Click on the ‘Start Workflow’ button at the bottom of the page.
