Summer Research Program

The Summer Research Program (SRP) is a two-week-summer opportunity to prepare historically underserved students for intensive research, the Ph.D. experience, application, and to introduce the support systems available for doctoral success at Wayne State University. The aim of SRP is to prepare cohorts of equitable, diverse, and inclusive applicants for highly intensive research, future faculty positions, thought and leadership roles made possible with a Wayne State University doctoral degree. 

Participating schools/colleges/departments:

  • College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
    • English 
    • Biological Sciences
  • School of Social Work  

Eligible students: 

  • Historically underserved in doctoral education, discipline, socioeconomic status
  • Attend a historically black college/university or underrepresented minority 
  • Have an interest in obtaining a Ph.D. in English, social work, or biological sciences
  • Have a 3.0 GPA

Summer Research Program: June 19 July 1, 2022 

Student experience: During the two-week-summer program, students will participate in research, interact with current students, attend seminars, explore Detroit, learn about WSU support systems, and work on the WSU doctoral application. Students will also be invited to attend the 2023 Graduate Research Symposium
