Destané Doughty is a senior in African American Studies. She considers the SURGE program an opportunity to better understand the graduate application process, create meaningful academic relationships and a safe space to discuss the realities of graduate school with her mentor. Outside her studies, Doughty enjoys visiting the Detroit Library, taking walks around the DIA and never misses a Pistons’ home game.
