Course Description

The Research Design and Analysis Unit (RDA) is hosting an online "Introduction to Data Management and Statistical Analysis in R Bootcamp" this Fall semester. The fall 2022 session will run in accordance with the academic calendar, starting on Aug. 28 and ending on Dec. 20. It is designed for any graduate students or postdocs interested in discovering more about the open-source statistical software R and more generally, statistical analyses/data management. Prior experience in R is not required and graduate students and postdocs from any department/discipline are eligible to participate.

This workshop will be facilitated by the RDA Unit's director and consultants. The expected time commitment is 10-12 hours per week. To support the infrastructure and staffing required to run this semester-long workshop, there is a $100 non-refundable enrollment fee for graduate students/post-docs and $150 enrollment fee for faculty. Space is limited to the first 75 who register.

To reserve your spot in the workshop, register using the secure portal.

The format of this workshop will be a combination of asynchronous online demonstrations/lectures, hands-on activities, and an independent final project. A "certificate of completion" will be awarded to students who actively participate in the workshop activities (i.e., those students who complete weekly assignments/the final project and watch the weekly pre-recorded lectures/tutorials).

Participants can expect to:

    • Learn the basics of R such as importing and exporting data.
    • Learn about R data structures and R packages.
    • Learn strategies for data manipulation within R (compute, recode, selecting cases, etc.).
    • Work through examples of how to conduct basic statistical analyses in R (descriptive, correlation, regression, T-test, ANOVA).
    • Learn how to graph the results of basic statistical analyses in R.

This workshop will also be offered in winter 2022. If you are unable to register for the fall session, but are interested in enrolling in the winter workshop, complete the pre-registration form

Refund policy

If circumstances change and you are no longer able to participate in the workshop after paying/registering, there are two options: 1) you may choose to defer your registration to the next workshop session (e.g., defer to summer session if you registered/paid for the winter) or 2) request a refund of registration costs. It is important to note that refund requests MUST BE MADE ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE START OF THE WORKSHOP. That is, the deadline to request refunds for the fall session is August 21, 2022 (with %3 transaction fee). Once the workshop has started, we are no longer able to provide refunds, but the participant can still defer their registration to the next session up until week 5 of the workshop.

If you have any additional questions about the course content, expectations, or registration procedure, please feel free to contact the instructional team at RDAWorkshops@wayne.edu.
